Pella Dutch
Conference: Little Hawkeye
Coach: Josiah Brandt
Twitter Handle: @DutchTennis
Nickname: Dutch
2017: 15-3, 3rd place team state, Conference Champions
After finishing the regular season 11-2, Pella beat a few rivals on their way to their first team state appearance in recent years. A loss to eventual state champ CR Xavier in the semis, the Dutch bounced back and beat Carroll Kuemper for 3rd place. In 2018, Pella is looking to make a 2nd consecutive state appearance. It may be a tough road back to Des Moines as their #2-#5 players from last year graduated. #1 Jordan Roozeboom returns to action this spring and will lead an inexperienced Pella team. There is a large group of players who will be vying for varsity spots, some returning upperclassman that had some doubles experience last year along with a promising incoming group of freshman. Exciting to see what Coach Brandt can get out of this team in 2018.
Schedule Analysis: The Dutch play a variety of different teams each year. 2A West Des Moines Valley is scheduled as their second meet and will be a great opportunity to play against a perennial big school team. Boone and Norwalk ware good indicators for progress and where Pella stands against some other top schools in 1A. The Dutch host an invitational in late April which will be good preparation for the players heading into post season play.
Best Case Scenario: The loss of so many starters from last year will make things tough in 2018. Reaching the state quarterfinals would be a great accomplishment especially with so many new faces.
Worst Case Scenario: Bows out during substate.
