Another great high school tennis season is in the books for the State of Iowa. New State Champions were crowned, and we made it through the season with little to no covid issues (but a crap ton of weather issues!) As we come to a close, the 2022 edition of the blog awards are now here, including 1st/2nd team all-state selections, freshman of the year, senior of the year and coach of the year. All of the 1A/2A Boys/Girls will be listed below and you can also see the tweets with the pictures of selections posted. Time to round out the 2022 season! Girls team state final four commences this Wednesday at Waukee Northwest and Waveland respectively. Dowling and Xavier enter the field as the top seeds and both are big favorites to claim another team crown. Last weekend was a great couple of days with the singles and doubles state tournaments, a lot of good tennis in a short amount of time and new champions were decided. We just had a tremendous week of Boys State Tennis on the singles and doubles side a few days ago and now the tide turns to team play after the Memorial Day holiday. First of all, I am hoping for nice weather and outdoor play as that tremendously prevents the day from being incredibly long, but also it's great to be outside to enjoy some tennis right? Only 4 teams remain in both the 2A and 1A brackets vying for a state championship. The big story going into Tuesday is Pleasant Valley getting the #1 seed over Iowa City West who had been ranked #1 all season every week in the coaches poll and the Iowa HS Tennis Team Rankings. Must of been quite the coaches seeding meeting. 

It is finally state tournament time on the girls side! The boys tournaments concluded yesterday and the girls individual state tournament is taking place Friday and Saturday while the team tournament finishes up on next Wednesday. Lots of great opportunities lie ahead for all qualifiers in the coming days to cement their name in Iowa HS Tennis history. Excited to continue to follow along as the season approaches its close for the 2022 chapter. 

This season felt like it has flown by, in some good ways, and in some bad ways. 'Weather' has been the main topic this spring with how BAD it has been and we finally have had some nice weather the last couple of weeks. Teams all over got to a point of so many postponements, that practices weren't being held anymore, as everyday was just meet after meet. Nonetheless, it is state tournament time, the most wonderful time of the tennis season year after year! The biggest change this year is the dates the events are taking place, which fall on a Tuesday and Wednesday this week. I am anticipating crowds to take a decent hit because of that, but maybe I will be proved wrong. Postseason 2022 is in full swing and next up is the team regionals for the girls this weekend. All teams have a shot in claiming a state title and the road begins on Saturday with one or two rounds taking place. While there are some state contender favorites, this is a great opportunity for many teams to do some damage and end their season on a high note.
