Top 10 - Class of 2021

We have made it to another school year, and that means another year of high school sports. Well, Iowa is trying to make the most of this fall after a pretty successful go around with Baseball and Softball in the summer. However, whatever happens as the school year gets kicked off isn't what we are focusing on today. As we said goodbye to the Class of 2020 a few months ago, and as hard as that was with how the spring turned out, we are excited for our new senior class! These newly minted seniors are going about their post-graduation exploration as best they can with our "new" circumstance surrounding Covid. Today, we look at some of the top Iowa tennis recruits in this class of 2021.

Tennis Season: Fall or Spring?

We are just about exactly 5 months out from when this pandemic took control of all of our lives around the world. In the sports world, specifically the college sports world, we sit roughly at the same spot as we did in late March. No (now little) college sports. The NBA has shown us promising results by being in the Orlando bubble and having a lot of success as the playoffs are about to begin. The MLB has been quite the opposite and is showing us that traveling comes with consequences. In just a few weeks, the US Open is expected to start. This will be a great opportunity for our sport to show (or not show) how well things can work and proceed with more play. Enough rambling on, this article is to discuss Iowa High School Tennis and the pros and cons of having the season in the spring vs having the season in the fall. I am not writing this to take a firm stance on which part of the year the tennis seasons should be played, but rather to open up a discussion on some of the good and bad

June Check In

It has been 110 days since Covid-19 turned the globe upside down, or what I like to call "doomsday" when sports were basically shut down. However, here we are at July 1 the beginning of the second half of 2020.  It has been quite a crazy first half of the year with so many things that have happened, headlined by Covid-19. We got rocked over the last six months and hopefully we can have a great second half of the year. Time will tell, and until then let's check in on the state of tennis.

2020 Seniors!

May 1. May 1 is our next target date to get the season underway. A lot can change in 3 weeks good or bad (hopefully good!) as we navigate these uncharted waters. While we keep practicing social distancing and hope for the best on this spring season, we have many seniors across the state who boast some great accomplishments and hoping to take the court with their teams one more time.

How The 2020 Season Could Look

One of the more popular suggestions of things I could write about during our social distancing time is how a high school tennis season could still happen and what that could look like. Now, I am not the smartest person by any means, but I feel the two options I discuss below are the most logical and obvious ways to go about a return or beginning of the 2020 spring season. Always love hearing your ideas and thoughts, so feel free to comment on the twitter posting this is on and/or on the comments at the end of this article! Lets dive in...

Social Distancing Objectives

We are now on day 2...day 4....wait maybe day 9 of quarantine? Actually it really feels like it has been day 275 since each day over the last week has now been meshed into one giant blur. In all seriousness, this is a very uncertain time not just in our state or our country, but all over the world. I hope everyone has been staying safe and continues to take best practice and healthy measures. Today, I want to try and provide a little spark into our now "boring" lives and bring some content as best I can. I tweeted last week to get suggestions on things that I could write about. I got some great suggestions and the first one I decided to start with is kind of a mixture and somewhat more informational. Today we are looking at things players can do while SOCIAL DISTANCING at home. This includes some recommendations (really all players should do these things) that can help you all get a jump start on the next stage of your life post high school. As I say at the end, feel free to
