Iowa HS Match Results Entering Universal Tennis Rating

Iowa HS Tennis, BOYS ONLY, is joining the likes of Texas, Colorado and other states in having match results entered into Universal Tennis Rating (UTR). Starting right now, boys coaches can now put match results into UTR from the season. The IAHSAA Boys Tennis advisory committee had been looking for a better way to seed players when there is not a common opponent during postseason play.  Head Boys Tennis Coach and boys tennis committee member, TJ Cox, of West Des Moines Valley was able to talk more on where the direction that the committee is looking to go with getting high school match results into UTR. "This will be another tool in terms of postseason seeding, not the end all be all. Head to head record and common opponents will still be the strongest seeding factor like it has been. UTR would also be a way to house postseason tournament brackets/results for faster and easier score reporting for fans. We were able to poll the boys coaches around the state and had nearly a 70% app

2022 Season Preview

2022 season is here and I am ready to get the show on the road next week! First practice date was nearly two weeks ago and in typical Iowa fashion, we actually had some good weather during that first week and then reality set back in this week with cold temperatures and more rain. How we missed that classic Iowa HS Tennis weather. Another edition of the high school tennis season is about to commence. In what is one of the most exciting times of the year, players, coaches and teams across the state are doing their best to get practices in before competition begins. Each season brings a new wave of talent and brings a new set of players who have breakout seasons. I'll stop rambling on now and get to the main event below. Here is the 2022 Iowa HS Tennis Season Preview!  2A Boys Team State Title Contenders Pleasant Valley: The last time the Spartans were on the court together resulted in a 3rd place team finish at the state tournament last June. In what has to be the most epic state se

Postseason Process

It has been a couple of years since I wrote this article on how the postseason process works for Iowa High School Boys and Girls tennis. I took a little bit of time to clean it up and make it hopefully even easier to read and follow as we progress through the 2022 edition of Iowa HS Tennis.  *Team postseason play defaults to state scoring. State scoring = 6 singles matches and 3 doubles matches for a total of 9 matches. Team postseason meets are played to decision, when a team wins 5 matches to clinch the meet* Boys Postseason Process 1. Districts 2. Preliminary Substate 3. Substate 4. Individual State 5. Team State Districts Each season, the largest 48 schools in the state are declared the 2A division in tennis, with the rest of the schools making up the 1A division.  Teams are sorted in districts to begin postseason play. Typically, these districts are dictated by geography. Each team is allowed to enter 2 singles players and 2 doubles pairs for a total of 6 players. A player can be
