Players of the Week
1A Boys: Seth Blackford (Marion), Kevin Lopez & Jaylen Saengchanpheng (Storm Lake)
Blackford went 6-0 last week for the Indians at the top spots in both singles and doubles and helped Marion come away with a win against Oelwein. Blackford captured decisive wins in all of his matches against Oelwein, Waverly Shell-Rock and Union.
Lopez and Saengchanpheng helped the Tornadoes claim a 7-2 win over Cherokee Washington at the number one and two singles spots, and teamed together for a win a number one doubles. Over the weekend, the duo won the doubles title at the Atlantic Invitational.
1A Girls: Miyako Coffey (Xavier) & Grace Gaede (Waverly Shell-Rock)
Coffey holds down the top spots for the top ranked Saints and had another stellar performance last week. Coffey went 4-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles to lead Xavier to four 9-0 wins over Prairie, Hempstead, Linn-Mar and Kennedy.
Gaede resides in the middle of the lineup for the WSR squad and put together a great week on the court. Gaede went undefeated in all her singles matches on court three and doubles matches on court two to help the Go-Hawks go 3-0 as a team against Charles City, Oelwein and Camanche.
Teams of the Week
2A Girls: Clinton
The River Queens went 2-0 last week and scored a big 5-4 win over #6/#7 Pleasant Valley. After the meet was tied at 3-3 after singles, the River Queens dominated at two and three doubles to clinch the win. Clinton remains undefeated on the year and sits in the drivers seat for the MAC title.
2A Boys: Lewis Central
Lewis Central has put together a nice season so far this year as they currently sit at 4-1 with their lone set back against Clarinda a few weeks ago. Last week, the Titans went 2-0 with a 6-3 win over St. Albert and an 8-1 win over Red Oak.
1A Girls: Union
Union has also had a great start to the season so far as they currently reside with a 5-0 record thanks to a pair of wins last week. The Knights captured a big 5-4 win over Decorah and a 9-0 win over Marion. Alexa Weber continues her great performance this year as she looks for a bid to state in the coming weeks.
1A Boys: Keokuk
Keokul has been a team under the radar this year with an impressive 8-1 record. The Chiefs look to be playing a conference only schedule playing each team two to three times, but they are rolling through it with the exception of a 4-5 loss to Fort Madison. Last week, Keokuk went 4-0 and scored wins over Burlington twice, Mount Pleasant and Ottumwa.
