Players of the Week
2A Boys: Steven Danna, Waukee (Sr.)
Danna has had an incredibly eventful last year or more battling and BEATING bone cancer, not to mention he also had his knee replaced. Not being sure if he was going to be able to play this season, very glad to see him back on the court for the Warriors. Danna went 5-0 last week in his singles and doubles matches combined and helped Waukee score a big win over #4 Valley.
1A Boys: Jack Edwards & Vaughn Thompson, Pella (Sr., Sr.)
Edwards and Thompson who hold down the number one and two spots for the Dutch both went a whopping 12-0 last week. They led Pella to a decisive win over then #6 Boone to start the week. Edwards and Thompson teamed up in doubles to win the Johnston Invite and Knoxville invite to close out the week.
Teams of the Week
2A Girls: Dubuque Hempstead
The Mustangs have bounced back from the only setback to start the year and now have won five straight. Last week. Hempstead captured hard fought wins over Dubuque Senior 6-3 and CR Prairie 5-4. Over the past weekend, the Mustangs secured shutout wins against Waterloo East and Waterloo West 9-0.
2A Boys: Council Bluffs Lincoln
Lincoln is also continuing their great play during the 2021 season. With just one loss to #4 Valley, the Lynx are winners of five straight and sit at 6-1 on the year. Last week, CB Lincoln grabbed two wins over Sioux City North 6-3 and Sioux City West 8-0.
1A Girls: Aplington-Parkersburg
Possibly a nice surprise of this year is the Falcons of Aplington-Parkersburg. The Falcons are currently 5-0 and won four of their matches last week to stay undefeated. Wins included Iowa Falls 8-1, Dike-New Hartford 6-3, Grundy Center 9-0 and Clear Lake 9-0. A good test awaits when they face #2 Columbus later this week.
1A Boys: Southwest Valley
The Timberwolves are also perfect on the year sitting at 4-0 at the moment and will look to keep that momentum going looking ahead to this week. A trio of wins got Southwest Valley to 4-0 on the season last week with wins over Clarinda 8-1, Creston 7-2, and Red Oak 9-0.
