Boys District host sites were announced earlier this week. Over the past couple of years we have gone through the pain of how the assignments are determined more so than anything. Will this finally be the year everything works out the way it should? 2A finally got it right a few years ago and 1A still hasn't, hopefully that changes. While the host sites have been announced, I have outlined my thoughts on what I think all the districts could look like. To emphasize, these are NOT the actual districts at this point in time, just my speculation on what I think they could/should look like looking ahead.
2021 Boys District Hosts

The Class 2A District assignments have been pretty solid over the last couple of seasons. It took the IAHSAA a while to get it right but they finally have done a good job spreading everything out. A key component that will be interesting to follow and see how it plays out is the assignments at Iowa City West, CR Prairie and North Scott. There is a lot of talented players in the Cedar Rapids area in Grayson Zylstra (CR Wash), Kyle Lassen (CR Jeff) and Parker Sprague (CR Kennedy) as well as Linn-Mar as a team. IC West would most likely get a few entries to the state tournament, but if assignments don't play out well, a few tournament qualifier hopefuls may not make it if one of these districts is loaded. I think outside of these sites things should be spread out pretty well. Below are my predictions on how the Class 2A District assignments could play out.

Unlike 2A, 1A assignments have been quite the problem the last couple of seasons. Really I am talking about CR Xavier, Dubuque Wahlert and Columbus Catholic all being in the same district, which results in two of the three teams not making it past substate. These three teams and Pella have been at the forefront of 1A the last few years, but the IAHSAA seems to continually get it wrong every year to spread these teams out. The sites this year make it quite difficult to get it right and do just that. In my opinion, Xavier has to go to Fairfield, Wahlert is at their own host site, and Columbus to WSR. If this can happen, the Association will have finally got it right. Time will tell, but below are my predictions on 1A District Assignments.
