Players of the Week
1A Boys: Grant Love (Estherville Lincoln Central)
Love went undefeated last week in his singles matches holding down the top spot for the Midgets. After claiming wins over Storm Lake, Cherokee Washington and Spirit Lake-Okoboji, Love captured a singles title at the Lakes Conference tournament over the weekend.
1A Girls: Catherine Straus (Spirit Lake-Okoboji)
Straus put together an undefeated performance last week scoring a number of wins against multiple opponents. After going 4-0 at the top spot in singles for dual meets, Straus capped off the week with a singles title at the Lakes Conference tournament.
2A Boys: Jacob Ellsworth (Davenport Central) & Kaden Taylor (Waukee)
Ellsworth put together a strong performance last week going 8-1 combined on the singles and doubles courts. Jacob paired with Garrett Ellsworth to take 3rd in the number two doubles flight at the Clinton Invitational and also won the number six singles flight.
Taylor has been very strong player in his first season for the Warriors. Last week, Taylor went 3-0 at number two singles which included wins over Caleb Peterson (Centennial), and Brady Adams (PV). Kaden has also played the one doubles spot and helped Waukee claim the team win over #3 PV.
2A Girls: Abbie Peterson (Ankeny Centennial)
After dropping her opening match of the season a number of weeks ago, Abbie Peterson has found her form and has remained undefeated since then. Last week was no different than the rest as Peterson won at the top spot against Waukee comfortably and then defeated 2A singles title contender Arunadee Fernando of Ames 6-3, 6-3.
Teams of the Week
2A Girls: Johnston
The Dragons put together a 3-0 team performance last week to improve to 6-1. Johnston claimed decisive victories over Marshalltown and Southeast Polk. In addition, the Dragons took home a win in a top 10 battle with Waukee.
2A Boys: Waukee
The Warriors kept their overall record unblemished on the year and last week was no different as Waukee claimed three more wins. After a dominating win over Johnston, the Warriors picked up two more wins over ranked opponents in Ankeny Centennial and Pleasant Valley. The match vs PV may have been a potential final four preview.
1A Girls: Mount Vernon
The Mustangs have now won five in a row which includes a 3-0 effort last week and now sit at 7-2 on the year. The Mustangs picked up solid wins over South Tama, Maquoketa and avenged an earlier season loss to Independence.
1A Boys: Davenport Assumption
The Knights also continue their strong play on the year and have now won eight in a row of their own since a loss to PV. Last week, Assumption gutted out wins against North Scott and Clinton before taking out Maquoketa
