Girls Team Regionals 2019

Boy, has it been a busy Friday! Three districts were able to complete play on Wednesday with the remaining 13 sites in progress today. I'll throw in some form of recap for districts next week, but I am here for the Girls regionals right now. It's been a busy week, so this won't be super in depth, but a little something to get you prepared for what will be happening for this weekend and the next.

2A Girls

Region 1:

Top 10 Teams: #1 Ames, #7 Urbandale

Predictions:
Regional final: Ames def. Sioux City East
Regional final: Urbandale vs Valley
Quarterfinals: Ames def. Urbandale/Valley

Ames shouldn't have too much trouble getting back to the final four in this district. I think the Urbandale and Valley match will be a good one with a nice opportunity to make the quarters.

Region 2:

Top 10 teams: #3 Dowling, #5 Johnston, #9 Ankeny Centennial

Predictions:
Regional final: Dowling def. whoever makes it
Regional final: Johnston def. Ankeny Centennial
Quarterfinals: Dowling def. Johnston

Fun section here with three top 10 teams. Dowling is going at it with Ames right now and I think is the clear favorite to reach the final four.

Region 3:

Top 10 teams: #2 IC West, #8 Clinton, #10 DBQ Hempstead

Predictions:
Regional final: Clinton def. Dubuque Hempstead
Regional final: IC West def. CR Wash
Quarterfinals: IC West def. Clinton

IC West made a statement with a strong 7-2 over previously undefeated Cedar Falls yesterday, again without star Emma Koch this season. I do think Clinton and Hempstead could have a great meet and a nice opportunity for both to reach the quarters.

Region 4:

Top 10 teams: #4 Pleasant Valley, #6 Cedar Falls

Predictions:
Regional final: Pleasant Valley def. Bettendorf
Regional final: Cedar Falls def. CR Kennedy
Quarterfinals: Pleasant Valley def. Cedar Falls

Two very strong teams in PV and CF are in the last section of the draw. CF took their first loss yesterday to IC West, however I think they can give the Spartans a run for their money. Look for this to be the closes Quarterfinals match.


1A

Region 1:

Top 10 teams: #1 Columbus, #5 Waverly-Shell Rock

Predictions:
Regional final: WSR def. Spirit Lake
Regional final: Columbus def. LeMars
Quarterfinals: Columbus def. WSR

One of the weaker sections of the draw in my opinion. WSR and Columbus should have little trouble reaching the Quarters.

Region 2:

Top 10 teams: #2 CR Xavier, #6 Red Oak

Predictions:
Regional final: CR Xavier def. Decorah
Regional final: Red Oak def. Kuemper Catholic
Quarterfinals: CR Xavier def. Red Oak

CR Xavier is the favorite in this section and the only team to push Columbus to the limits this year. Red Oak has come on strong as of late so don't count them out, but i'm going to take the Saints.

Region 3:

Top 10 teams: #4 Ballard, #7 Shenandoah, #8 Glenwood, #10 Pella

Predictions:
Regional final: Ballard def. Pella Christian
Regional final: Shenandoah def. Pella
Quarterfinals: Ballard def. Shenandoah

LOADED SECTION. I REPEAT THIS SECTION IS LOADED. Three top 10 teams are in the same region!!! Going to be a barn burner. Ballard shouldn't have issues making the quarters. Shenandoah, Glenwood and Pella all have a good shot to meet Ballard.'

Region 4:

Top 10 teams: #3 Fairfield, #9 Dubuque Wahlert

Predictions:
Regional final: Fairfield def. Chariton
Regional final: Dubuque Wahlert def. Fort Madison
Quarterfinals: Fairfield def. Dubuque Wahlert

Pretty straightforward part of the bracket. I think Fairfield and Wahlert will both cruise to the Quarters. That meeting should be pretty good though, and I am not counting the Golden Eagles out.
