Final Power Rankings 2018

Boys Substate & Quarters

@ Johnston Ankeny Centennial vs Johnston Waukee vs Dowling This substate features 3 top 10 teams and it makes for a heck of a day for tennis tomorrow. Ankeny Centennial shouldn't have too much of a problem with Johnston. Waukee beat Dowling 6-3 (state scoring) in the regular season and I am going to expect the same type of performance again. I think Waukee is a deeper team at the moment. In the Quarters, Waukee and Ankeny Centennial will have a shot to reach the final four and I am going to go with Waukee in a close one.

Girls Individual Regionals

Tomorrow is the first day of individual postseason implications on the girls side with regionals. While team regionals are under way, state qualifiers will be decided by the end of tomorrow. Much like districts on the Boys side, individual regionals features 2 singles players and 2 doubles teams from each team. A doubles and singles draw is created and the winners/runner-ups advance to the individual state tournament. Lets take a look at some of the players to watch out for!

Districts Recap + Prelim Substate

First major day of post-season is complete and we are pushing forward. District team champions were crowned and individuals qualified for the state singles and doubles tournament. Let's take a look at some of the results from Districts and what Substate will provide for us.

2018 Girls Team Regionals

Here comes the busy part of the season, but arguably the most exciting time of the season. Yesterday on the Boys side, districts was completed and players have qualified for the individual state singles and doubles tournament as well as winning teams advancing to the substate rounds. Now? The Girls side is set to get rolling this weekend with the team regionals.

Power Rankings 5/8

Welcome to the last regular season Power Rankings! Boys Districts are tomorrow followed by preliminary substate this weekend. On the girls side, the last regular season duals are taking place this week in preparation for team regionals that begin this Saturday. I want to wish the best of luck to all teams as the 2018 post-season begins!

2018 Districts

2018 has brought a lot of ups and downs (i'm talking about you mother nature!) however, we are on the brink of the beginning of postseason! What an exciting time of the year. There has been great tennis all over the state this spring and now we will see what teams and individuals advance out of districts this Wednesday. Let's take a brief look at each district, and what teams and players we should watch out for.

Power Rankings 5/2

We are a week away from Post-season play! How 2018 has gone so fast, I don't know. I suppose the weather has had something to do with it making it difficult for tennis to happen across the state. Nonetheless, we have made it! Boys districts commence next week on the 9th, and the Girls team regionals begin on the 12th. I will do my best to get out some previews for districts and team regionals prior to the start of those next week. Right now, here are this weeks power rankings.

Power Rankings 4/25

Week 3 power rankings have arrived. Where does your favorite team stack up? Yesterday was a whirlwind of tennis matches all around and so many results to catch up on. The rest of the week will be no different and more high quality matches will be played. Be sure to check out my tweet with the link to the Girls singles and doubles regional assignments. The postseason is closing in. Here are your week 3 team rankings!

What 2 Watch 4: April 23-39

What 2 Watch 4 April 23 are we finally have some sun! Great weather is on dock for another packed week of Iowa tennis. I am looking to try two new features this week so be sure to keep your eyes open for those. These features include an article feature on the highly touted matchup with 2A Boys of IC West and Linn-Mar Tuesday the 24th, and the first ever individual singles rankings (beginning with 2A boys to see how it shakes out! If anyone is interested in volunteering with the coverage of Iowa HS Tennis, send me a message or email! Would love to expand singles rankings to all classes). With that being said, here is what you should watch for with some of the top 10 power ranked teams this week!

Power Rankings 4/18

Power Rankings (Team) 4/18 Just as we thought the weather would stay warm and sunny, the snow comes roaring back. Luckily, more meets have gotten to be played and hopefully this is the last of the snow for a long, long time. In the 2nd edition of the team power rankings, I have expanded to 10 teams per class as more results are happening. Hope you enjoy!

What 2 Watch 4: April 16-22

What 2 Watch 4 April 15...April 15 snow is on the ground every where in Iowa. The start of the 2018 season has been a rough go for teams across the state as the weather seems to not want to get even a little warm. Even so, we still deal with the conditions we have and continue to play tennis. A few weeks in this spring, there has not been a whole lot of surprises results wise (at least on my end). I would now like to take a brief look into some matches to watch for this week.

Power Rankings 4/12

Power Rankings (Team) 4/12 Congratulations to the teams that have made the blogs first ever team power rankings. This article will come out weekly (hopefully!). This year the weather seems to want to stay cold thus preventing some great tennis across the state. Nonetheless, there have been some results so far as we get rolling with the 2018 season.
